SUMMARY:Synergy Lab 2022
DESCRIPTION:Bring on the city! Out into the street! In the run-up to the festival\, TANZ Bremen and UNUSUAL SYMPTOMS\, the dance company at Theater Bremen\, invite you to the SYNERGY LAB. And that’s what they will do\, outdoors\, comprehensible for all\, by chance encounter with dance in urban space. The Lab with its interventions in public space will be directed by the choreographer VICTOR QUIJADA from Québec\, a former B-Boy\, who will be a guest of the festival with his company RUBBERBAND.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n// \nArtistic director: Victor Quijada \nAssistance: Sydney McManus \nA project by TANZ Bremen in cooperation with Unusual Symptoms\, company-in-residence at Theater Bremen. \nSupported by the NATIONAL PERFORMANCE NETWORK – STEPPING OUT\, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR initiative. SUMMARY:Ever So Slightly
DESCRIPTION:How does change actually happen? With this question in mind\, Victor Quijada pondered his first choreography for a large cast – after 14 smaller evening fillers and numerous short pieces. Then\, at the end of 2018\, in the company’s home town Montréal\, Canada\, he brought out EVER SO SLIGHTLY; the French version rhymes\, “Vraiment doucement”.In pandemic times\, the unravelling of emotions and the dissolution of once fixed position help to recognize the status quo. The ten dancers form a kind of society that sometimes moves together and light-footedly masters balances\, sometimes frays into groups\, finally into individual elements that lose their footing. This is contrasted by gentle tones in the encounters\, the willingness to help\, the release of airy centrifugal forces. The action is musically accentuated by Jasper Gahunia and William Lamoureux\, who play an impressive selection of electronic and amplified instruments on one side of the stage. EVER SO SLIGHTLY earned huge cheers when it ended Vancouver’s long theatre closure in October 2021. \nVICTOR QUIJADA grew up listening to hip hop in Los Angeles and\, after dance training and engagements as a dancer\, developed his own method\, which he named RUBBERBAND after the ensemble he founded in 2002. It combines floor-based urban dance with partnering and contemporary ballet. \n// \nChoreography: Victor Quijada \nDance: Jean Bui\, Daniela Jezerinac\, Emma Lynn Mackay-Ronacher\, Jessica Muszynski\, Jovick Pavajeau-Orostegui\, Brontë Poiré-Prest\, Jerimy Rivera\, Adèle Ross\, Ryan Taylor\, Paco Ziel \nMusic: Jasper Gahunia\, William Lamoureux \nLighting design: Yan Lee Chan \nOriginal music: Jasper Gahunia \nCostumes: Cloé Alain-Gendreau \nDramaturgy: Mathieu Leroux \nTechnical direction: Yan Lee Chan \n  \nProduction: RUBBERBAND \nCo-production: Danse Danse\, Société de la Place des Arts de Montréal\, Théâtre Hector-Charland and Global Arts Live. With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts\, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec\, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Ontario Arts Council. \nSupported by: Danse à la Carte and the residencies at Place des Arts\, Salle Pauline-Julien\, CCOV – Centre de création O Vertigo and Théâtre Hector-Charland. \nFOKUS CANADA is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts\, the Government of Canada (Embassy of Canada) and the Quebec Government Office. \n

SUMMARY:Ever So Slightly
DESCRIPTION:Victor Quijada is back\, with ten dancer-athletes in top form. Ever So Slightly explores the behavioural mechanisms and reflexes we develop against the ceaseless flow of irritants that bombard us in our daily lives. Most of us long for calm and resilience\, but how do we get to a zone where noise and aggressivity no longer have a place? Simultaneously delivering delicacy\, brutality\, finesse\, and high-voltage action\, the choreographer conveys all the energy contained in urgency\, revolt\, chaos\, and flight. The premiere of Ever So Slightly took place in December 2018 at Théâtre Maisonneuve of Place des Arts\, in Montreal. Ever So Slightly is a coproduction of RUBBERBAND\, Danse Danse\, Société de la Place des Arts de Montréal\, Théâtre Hector-Charland and Global Arts Live. With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts\, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec\, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Ontario Arts Council. \nRUBBERBAND benefited from the support of Danse à la Carte and residencies at Place des Arts\, Salle Pauline-Julien\, CCOV – Centre de création O Vertigo and Théâtre Hector-Charland for the creation of Ever So Slightly.

SUMMARY:RUBBERBAND Method Workshop - Victor Quijada assisted by Jovick Pavajeau-Orostegui
DESCRIPTION:The hallmark of the company\, the RUBBERBAND Method comprises a unique choreographic vocabulary developed by Victor Quijada. It is now taught throughout the world in university programs\, workshops\, and master classes.Fascinated by the raw dynamic of Hip Hop/break-dancing and the purity of classical formalism\, Quijada has been demolishing barriers between these contrasting dance styles for more than 15 years now. The RUBBERBAND Method initiates participants to movements issuing from the blending of urban and contemporary dance\, with a focus on interpretation\, decision-taking\, the use of rhythmic variations\, and partnering. This movement technique emphasizes transitioning from vertical to horizontal and prepares dancers with classical or contemporary training for floor work.Workshops in the RUBBERBAND Method are offered to established professional dancers who want to diversify their expressive language\, as well as to advanced dance students.
