RUBBERBAND, FINALIST FOR THE 34TH GRAND PRIX DU CONSEIL DES ARTS DE MONTRÉAL

09.01.2019

Montreal, January 9, 2019 – RUBBERBAND has learned that it is one of the finalists, announced today, for the 34th Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal, for its production Ever So Slightly, presented by Danse Danse at Théâtre Maisonneuve from December 5 to 8, 2018.

The result of two years of creation work, Ever So Slightly marks a turning-point for the company. For the first time, Montreal audiences were treated to a RUBBERBAND production conceived for a grand-scale venue, giving full expression to the musicians onstage, the company’s signature hybridization of styles, and the explosive energy of ten dancers at the peak of their art. Facing the challenge of reinventing his aesthetic for maximum impact on Théâtre Maisonneuve’s huge stage, Victor Quijada relied on seasoned artistic collaborators and on dancers schooled in his Method to create a work that garnered praise for its balance of frenzy and intimacy. This prestigious nomination is a signal honour for the company and confirms the enthusiastic reception of its latest work.

Ever So Slightly is a co-production of Danse Danse, Place des Arts, Théâtre Hector-Charland, and World Music/CRASHarts, and was created with the support of Danse à la Carte and residencies offered by Place des Arts, the O Vertigo Creation Centre – CCOV, Théâtre Hector-Charland, and Salle Pauline-Julien. RUBBERBAND benefits from the support of the Canada Council for the Art, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, and the Ontario Arts Council.
