In Gravity of Center, Quijada’s raw movement conveys the conflicting dynamics between individuals in a group: their independence is obvious and problems are inevitable.
Five dancers, who might represent a family, a nomadic tribe, or an entire people, jostle each other, fight, and struggle to survive, yet with a breathtaking fluidity of movement. Quijada has again called upon faithful collaborators Yan Lee Chan, who sculpts the space with light, and Jasper Gahunia, who creates the audio equivalent of Quijada’s aesthetic.
The premiere of Gravity of Center took place in April 2011 at the Cinquième Salle of Place des Arts, in Montreal.
