A woman breaks free from the physical and psychological ties of an abusive relationship. In his directorial debut, Victor Quijada, mentored by director Micah Meisner, adapted an excerpt from the full-length work, Slicing Static. Original music by Mitchell Akiyama sets the rhythm of the tango-inspired duet, filmed entirely in black and white. With disarming simplicity, the camera deftly heightens the dramatic development by trompe-l’oeil effects.

The film Small Explosions That Are Yours to Keep was made in 2007.

Coproduced by Natalie Galazka and RUBBERBANDance Group. With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
